What Is Behaviour Analysis

Sergio Ramos 2I am a Psychologist graduated from the University of Seville, Spain, in 2017, with a professional career that has encompassed both clinical and research domains, allowing me to merge a comprehensive vision of psychology. My interest in research emerged during my undergraduate years, where I held the position of student collaborator in the Basic Psychology laboratory, mentored by Professor Dr. Santiago Benjumea Rodríguez. After completing my degree, I continued my training as a researcher, obtaining a Master's degree in Research in Psychology at the National Distance Education University (UNED). During this master's program, I conducted my Master's Thesis under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ricardo Pellón Suárez de Puga, exploring topics related to impulsivity and schedule-induced behaviors. My involvement in additional research, in international collaboration with the University of Oslo (Norway), resulted in the publication of several articles in impactful journals, including my Master's Thesis. Between 2019 and 2022, I served as a clinical psychologist at the therapeutic center C.E.S. Proyecto Hombre Sevilla, specializing in the treatment of addiction disorders in adolescent and adult populations with dual diagnosis. During this time, I also began the Master's program in General Health Psychology at the University of Seville, graduating in July 2023 after presenting a Master's Thesis focused on impulsivity and drug use in adolescents with ADHD.

Since March 2022, I have been immersed in my doctoral studies with the support of an UNED scholarship. My doctoral research focuses on the reinforcement mechanisms of impulsive behavior, exploring the influence of biological and behavioral factors on choices.

Between September and December 2023, I conducted a research stay at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (USA), under the guidance of Professor Dr. Christine Hughes, where I worked on topics related to behavioral pharmacology and impulsivity. Currently, I am in my third year, with data presented at various international conferences and in the process of preparation for publication. Throughout my years of research career, I have played an active role in the design, development, and execution of several projects, thus consolidating my commitment to making a significant contribution to the field of psychology.

I am currently a PhD student in Experimental Psychology at the National University of Distance Education (UNED), Spain. Since the beginning of my studies in psychology, I have been involved in research projects at both national and international universities, which has given me a broad perspective on the needs and expectations of students in different academic contexts. This experience, combined with my active participation in various behavior analysis societies, has led me to run for the position of Student Representative for the European Association for Behaviour Analysis (EABA).

I am motivated to apply for this position because I believe that students are the future of psychology, and it is crucial for them to be involved in important societies like the EABA from the very beginning of their academic training. Our active participation can shape our competencies and ultimately the future of the discipline. I want to be part of this process by ensuring that the student voice is heard and effectively represented.

As a representative, one of my primary goals would be to improve students' accessibility to events organized by the society and to encourage greater student participation in conferences and other activities. Often, students are unaware of the events and opportunities that the society offers. Increasing visibility and reach will be essential to engage more students and make the society's activities more attractive.

In terms of experience, I am currently the representative of pre-doctoral researchers at my university, which has given me the necessary skills to manage demands and bring them to the appropriate authorities. I have also participated in multiple EABA conferences as both an attended and a presenter, and I have been participating in B.F. Skinner Awards organized by the society, which has further involved me with the community. Additionally, I have experience organizing student events within the Spanish Society for Behaviour Analysis, which has given me practical experience in managing and executing student-centered activities.

I believe my teamwork skills and ability to communicate effectively are key strengths that will help me succeed in this role. My involvement in international associations has provided me with a global perspective on student needs, allowing me to understand the expectations of students across different countries and academic systems.

If elected, I am fully committed to working hard with effort and enthusiasm to ensure that students benefit from all the opportunities the society provides. I am dedicated to achieving the goals I set, ensuring that the student voice is active, inclusive, and heard.

In conclusion, I am passionate about representing students and driving meaningful change within the EABA. With my academic experience, organizational skills, and collaborative mindset, I believe I can make a real difference for all students within this great community.
